2012-01-12 Missionary Updates

January 12, 2012

The Cisler Family1. Today, Chris & Erika Cisler & their 5 boys boarded a plane for Uruguay. They are expecting to land in Montevideo after a 15 hour flight. We are excited about this step in their ministry. We are praying that their flight will be as uneventful as it can be with 5 small children.

Her grandpa has been sick recently and she received a call just a short while ago saying they were taking him off dialysis and placing him in hospice. They given him 7-10 days. That’s all the bad news we have today! In other news, the dedication of the new property went well last weekend and the people seemed to enjoy getting to visit it for the first time. We will continue to move forward with plans as the Lord allows. Also, on Sunday afternoon my dad arrived for his yearly visit. He’ll be staying with us a couple of months and we look forward to that. Unfortunately for him (by fortunately for me) he’s stuck helping me with the roof! I don’t think he minds too much, but it sure is a lot of work. We’re making steady progress, albeit it a tad slow. We’re 1/2 way done with one side of the house out of four so still a lot to go. We’re getting the hang of it, and I’ve only *almost* fell off the roof once! (That metal is pretty slick stuff) Other than that, not much to share. Have a great day!

3. Mrs. Phyllis Hall (missionary to Uganda) was in our services last night, and it was a great blessing to hear how God is working in the children with whom she is working.

Just a couple quick updates. Things in the church are still going well. We have not been able to finish the closing on the land, but it will be soon. There was a hiccup due to our legal status as a nonprofit association that caused problems with the title company, but those were resolved yesterday. We may close today and if not it will be early next week. Tomorrow we are having our annual New Years’ Eve activity and are looking forward to a good time together as a church family. In other news, we have begun a big repair project on our personal home, replacing the roof! The asphalt shingles are about 30 years old and are literally coming apart. The asphalt is just rolling off the roof and in many places there are holes all the way through the shingles themselves. Fortunately we haven’t had any leaks yet (not sure how just going to give the credit to God on that one!), but we don’t want to press our luck! So, I’m busy laying underlay and will be putting a new roof on over the coming weeks. It may take me a while, but I thank God for the physical ability to do the work! Not much else to share.

Here is the latest update from our missionaries to Honduras, Evan & Carmen Williams…

Dear Supporting Pastors and Friends;

What a pleasure to share with you all the ways in which God has been working in and through our ministry here, but first let us wish you all a wonderful Christmas and we do thank you all for your prayers and faithful support that have made this ministry physically possible. Thank you too for all the cards, emails and greetings that you have sent to us; we assure you that they make us feel so loved.

Synopsis:

1). The Department for Internal Affairs of the Government wants more changes to our constitution.  2).  The builder who is studying with us is showing much interest.  3). We finally finished handing out the 3,000 Newsletters we printed up in July and we are now preparing our third edition. 4). Carmen starts to put together our Christmas programme.

Government demands:

The Lawyer acting for the department of Interior affairs has returned our constitution with even more requirements for change. Most of them are changes in format but there was one that was very sinister indeed.  She had added a clause that all of our ministries would be carried out under the supervision of competent government departments.  When Carmen and I went down to her office to talk with her about this she first alleged that it was just a generalization but when I insisted that she explain to me where in Honduran law they had a department who supervised the preaching of the gospel she quickly replied that that would be the job of the Fraternity of Evangelical Churches.  After I informed her that we are not a member of that group, nor ever will be, I pointed her to our clearly stated position on separation in our Constitution, which she had not changed, she went quiet and after further insistence on my part that she show me where this was a legal requirement in Honduras, she backed down and removed this inserted clause.  Praise God with us that God enabled me to pick this clause out and to realise it’s danger to our freedom as a Biblical Baptist Church and that our challenge of it was so successful.  Continue to pray also that God will continue to give us wisdom in all these necessary legal affairs.  Remember too our continued wrangle with her over our name and I will keep you posted on that.

Bible Study:

The builder that is working on our house is doing such a wonderful job and both he and his labourer study the word with me during their lunch break.  He, more than the labourer, seems to be wrestling with the new concepts that he is being taught.  I have been bringing them constantly to passages such 1Tim 2:5 and emphasising to them that Jesus is the only mediator before God for man.  Today I challenged him to search the N.T. and bring me one verse that teaches him clearly that he must go through Mary to get saved.  Pray for these men, as they are blind to these great truths.

Mariology is so big in Honduras, and not least in Santa Lucia.  Just today I over heard someone listening to the Catholic radio station and the presenter made a most blasphemous statement.  She said that as the bible calls Jesus the second Adam (which shows she does not know her bible, for it says He is the “Last Adam” 1Co 15:45) she then went on to argue, “Since Jesus is the second Adam, that then makes Mary the second Eve” ???????  Such misrepresentation of scripture is all to commonplace here and sadly not just amongst Catholics.

Newsletters:

Despite the geographical challenges we encounter in this mountainous area we have been able to fulfil our planned distribution of the 3,000 copies of our evangelistic Newsletter that we print up twice a year and we are now preparing our third edition.  This last copy saw one new family coming to our church and several phone inquiries.  What a joy too to see this new family grow in their relationship with Christ.  Pray for this area of our ministry that God will bless it to the salvation of many souls.

Christmas programme:

As in most churches, Carmen is encouraging the children in our different ministries to take part in our Christmas programme.  The sad thing is that their parents never attend to see their participation.  Pray with us that this year might be different and that many will accept our invitation to attend.

Our next report will be after Christmas, when we will be sending you our yearly report of all that has been happening throughout 2011.  Until then, may you all know God’s hand of blessing in your own lives and ministries.

Yours in Him,  Evan and Carmen Williams.

First, I want you to know that the messages from this past Sunday are uploaded on our Sermons page.

Good Monday morning to y’all. A few updates. The baptism last week went well and the new heater worked perfectly. Definitely was an improvement over the fridgid water from the last baptisms! Yesterday we had a busy Sunday. Normal morning services but then our church’s Thanksgiving Dinner in the evening. After the dinner we had a brief message and then our annual business meeting. Everything went well. In the meeting we voted to move forward with the purchase of the land here by our property, so we’ll be trying to make progress on that in the next couple of weeks. Also, we voted in 8 new members to the church, which was quite a blessing. We’ve still got some other folks attending regularly that have not yet decided to join, but we trust that will happen in the Lord’s timing. In other news, Melissa and I are still battling colds. It was “unpleasant” trying to preach with a sore throat and upper-respiratory infection, but we made it through. By the end of the day I had basically lost my voice, but it’s a little better today. Praying this will go away SOON! Otherwise, not much to report. Have a great week and a great Thanksgiving!

Good morning all! Four updates for you today. First, my medical conditions seem to have all abated (finally). I’m very happy about that and thank you very much for your prayers. Second, Melissa goes this afternoon for her appointment with the surgeon. It’s a second opinion (requested by her doctor). He’ll determine if he needs to do a biopsy or just leave things as they are and do a follow-up in a year. We’re praying that the doctor will make the right decision which will lead to her being completely healthy! Third, this coming Sunday night we are having a baptism service here. I’ve got one young lady already scheduled and may have 2 more girls. Praise the Lord for their willingness to continue forward in obedience. The following Sunday we have our annual church business meeting and will be voting in new members. I’ll let you know after the meeting what the final count is! Fourth, you will notice below that there are quite a few pictures of some half-empty land. That’s because our church is considering purchasing a tract of land to provide for future expansion. We are about 60% full in our current building and have been seeing steady growth since we began the work almost a year-and-a-half ago. If we continue at this pace we will outgrow our current facility in March of 2013, so about another year-and-a-half from now. We obviously can’t predict the future with any degree of certainty, but we’re going to assume that we’ll remain faithful to the work and that God will continue to bless us with souls saved and folks added to the church here. Therefore, we’re going to plan on that growth. Last night I presented an opportunity to the church to purchase a 1.9 acre tract on the same road as the church property. The basic details are that it costs $55,000, the owner is willing to finance at 6.5% with a $5,000 deposit and payments of $300 for 5 years. At the end of 5 years we would need to obtain permanent bank financing (which we don’t qualify for now due to being a new church). We’ve already received a promise from an individual to cover the deposit and as a church we could handle the payments. I asked the church here to begin praying about the situation and in 2 weeks we will discuss it again in our annual church business meeting and make a final decision at that time. So, please be praying with us that we would make the right decision, that being the one that is in-line with God’s will. That said, if we do end up purchasing the property, if anyone is interested in helping financially we could certainly use whatever assistance is available in paying off the balance as soon as possible to aid in having the funds available when it comes time to build the actual building. That’s it for today! Have a great day.

2011-10-26 Ron Maggard Update

October 26, 2011

This is the latest update from my friend Ron Maggard concerning the work in Haiti…

I never cease to marvel at God’s grace to the least worthy and I never have to search beyond myself to find where He is bestowing His grace. I am thankful to see God work inHaiti my own life and what a blessing to see God working in the lives of the Haitian people! Last week we launched a church in a new area of Haiti, Delmas 33. We are purchasing land in this densely populated area of Port au Prince and held our first services, a week long evangelistic crusade, on the property recently. This land is very accessible to the community. The first night of the meeting I looked across into the large tent community that is beside the property and saw many people who were listening to our service. Some came and told the pastor that they had been hoping a church would come to their area.

During the time of the opening of the work in this area and our first week of meetings some 16 people trusted Christ as Savior. At the end of the week we had the opportunity to baptize five. Much work went into this launch and we thank God for those who were involved. Several churches sent special offerings to help us meet our payment deadline. During the week I met with the church leaders and we talked about how we were facing a hard time because of the October deadline for the payment. These believers, some of the poorest in the world, opened their pockets to give all they had. Finally with just a few days to go some wonderful friends contacted me to see if we had reached the goal and they willingly made a substantial offering that put us over the top for our need. Yesterday the payment was made to the lawyer for the land. Praise the Lord!

As I said, I never cease to be amazed at the workings of God in our lives and ministries. I love working where God is working. Thank you for your prayers and a special thank you to those who faithfully help us reach the lost at whatever cost.

Updates From Aaron Freeman

A few things today. First, I was able to finish off the nursery, including cutting the door in half and adding a cover over the trundle with the drawers. It’s still pretty barren, but it’ll get more contents over time. The important part is it’s functional. We had a meeting last week of all the ladies interested in serving in the nursery. There were 8 adult ladies and one young person. That was a blessing. Today we had our annual church picnic. Not sure of the attendance, but we had quite a lot of people, including MANY kids. We also had 3 first-time visitors. All of them were visitors of visitors! So, it’s good to see the folks getting more settled in and more involved. The ones they invited were their neighbors, so that’s a blessing. There are lots of photos below of the days events. And, finally, a medical update. Melissa had her MRI this week, but we are still awaiting results. It could be as late as next month before we know more. I also made an unexpected trip to the doctor yesterday for a problem I was having and his diagnosis is a probably kidney stone. He thinks it’s small, so just an antibiotic for the infection and lots of water. At least I’m not having pain, just some other side effects. Will let you know if that gets worse!

10/11/2011 5:27:44 PM

Not a lot to report, but a couple of medical updates. First, Melissa. The results of her MRI were favorable, showing a lump that does not appear to be cancerous. However, the doctor has decided to go ahead and schedule Melissa to meet with a surgeon as a second opinion and also to see if perhaps they should do a biopsy. That meeting won’t take place until early next month, so more waiting. Second, Me. I went to the doctor on Friday and he thinks I have either a urinary tract infection or a small kidney stone. He’s treating with a strong antibiotic. So far, no change. No pain, really, but some other “nuisances” that are really disrupting my ability to get anything done. I’ve still got another 6 days on the medicine, and the doctor just wants to wait. So, quite possibly a few more days of annoying symptoms as well as side effects from the medicine. If things don’t change then the next step is an MRI for me. The hospital loves us here! Otherwise, things are good here!

Finished the office today. Did the mud/tape yesterday, primed last night around midnight and finished the final coats of paint around 7am this morning. Around 10:30 we had 8 folks from the church show up to help move everything. We finished the bulk of it in about 2 hours and then spent another hour on final cleanups and such. They did an amazing job and it was good to see so many turn out to help. God has given us a good group of people here. Photos below. Not pictured are the bookcases in the office, which are to the left as you enter.

Well, it’s been a while so we have a couple of updates for you today. First, about Melissa. They finally scheduled the MRI for October 4th. So, we’ve still got a while until we know more. Second, the church voted on September 14th to use some funds to build me a new office. I currently have an 11′ x 14′ office in the building with the Sunday School classroom. My new office will be 8′ x 11′ and is attached to the sanctuary. It’s smaller, but it’s sufficient. My current office will then be transformed into a nursery, solving our space problem, for the time being. Construction began on Tuesday and is going well. Today I’m starting the tape/mud process and the plan is to have the room completely done (including paint) by tomorrow. The most exciting part of the project is that this is the first project undertaken by the church that is not being completely using funds from supporting churches. The folks here are covering 100% of the cost. It’s a blessing to continue watching them grow. And, finally, this past Sunday we had two new visitors to church. They received some of our information during visitation and decided to come visit us. Looking forward to seeing them again!

Special Guests This Sunday

September 21, 2011

This Sunday our special guests will be the Patrick & Jen Bauer Family, our missionaries to the Australian Aborigines. They have their visas in hand and are expecting to leave for “Down-under” in November. What a blessing this family’s faithfulness has been to us. Brother Patrick will be speaking in the Sunday School hour and in the 7pm evening service.
